Confocal laser endomicroscopy in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal tract diseases

There is reviewed the potential clinical application of confocal laser endomicroscopy in the diagnosis of the gastrointestinal tract. This is a new noninvasive technique that allows with the help of a miniature confocal endomicroscopy runtime routine endiscopic procedure in vivo in real time to obtain images of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract in high resolution (the so-called virtual biopsy).
