The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of epidural analgesia (EA) with local anesthetic Ropivacain in newborns suffering from various surgical diseases during intra- and postoperative period. From 2012 till 2014 about 60 cases of epidural analgesia were observed. Patients included children with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (n = 14), bowel obstruction (n = 21), bowel perforation (n = 4), anal atresia (n = 7) and others (n = 14). We used 20G epidural catheter and Ropivacain (2 mg/ml) in a dose of 2 mg/kg during operations. In postoperative period we practiced various ways to administer the local anesthetic into epidural space. It was proved that epidural analgesia with Ropivacain allowed to achieve the proper pain relief effect without any hemodynamic failures or toxic effects of local anesthetic.
